This plant is currently dormant, returning underground until next year. It may look like a dying plant or empty pot of dirt, but rest assured the roots are healthy and developing beneath the surface. It will emerge again next growing season.
Flat-topped white ray flowers on long, usually unbranched stems. A member of the Aster family, it blooms late summer into fall, providing a late-season food source for pollinators. Thrives in open forest edges, grasslands, and sunny disturbed sites. Drought tolerant once established.
Uncommon in Oregon and California, rare and threatened in Washington. Oregon provenance.
