This plant is currently dormant
This plant is currently dormant, returning underground until next year. It may look like a dying plant or empty pot of dirt, but rest assured the roots are healthy and developing beneath the surface. It will emerge again next growing season.
Deciduous climbing vine with vivid orange tubular flowers that attract hummingbirds. Blooms in late spring to early summer. Here on the nursery grounds, it lives at the forest edge where it spirals up trees and branches but also spreads laterally along open ground in search of more things to climb; we actually have to dig it back when it starts to take over our manzanita area. Pictured here climbing Douglas Fir and Corylus cornuta (Beaked Hazelnut). Fruits are red berries, not edible for humans. Adaptable to sun or light shade with average moisture.
