Crataegus douglasii

Dense, thorny shrub or small tree, typically 6 to 15 feet tall, with clusters of white flowers in spring. Thorny structure provides excellent cover and nesting habitat. Dark purple-black berries much loved by wildlife and historically a staple food for Indigenous peoples of the region. Full sun to part shade, adaptable and drought-tolerant once established.
